Distant mission efforts at First Church in 2005 included sending hundreds of health kits and over $4000 to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.  Each year one adult group and two youth groups make mission trips to locations in and out of the U.S.  The past three years adult mission groups went to Juarez, Mexico to build one room, cement block homes for families who had previously been living in cardboard homes.

     Through the United Methodist system of apportionments First Church supports mission work around the world.  The United Methodist Church is one of the world's most active missionary bodies, with a presence on every continent, and in every emergency situation that arises around the world.  As an example, the United Methodist response to the 2005 Sunami disaster was in the millions of dollars of financial aid and human assistance.
