First Church is always looking for ways to meet the needs of people.  Local missions include the United Methodist Cooperative Food Pantry, which is housed here at First Church.  Those from our community who need groceries to feed their families visit First Church to meet those needs.  The Cooperative also serves a weekly meal at 6:00 Friday evenings for those in need.

Our "needy poor fund" distributes funds to local citizens who have a temporary and immediate need, such as money for medicine, a heating bill, or gasoline.  We also offer "transitory" aid to those who are passing though Van Wert and have need of a night's lodging or a warm meal.

First Church is also regularly involved in helping community service projects in Van Wert, such as Hospice, the YWCA, the Pregnancy Life Center, and others.
