The sanctuary of First Church dates back to 1877 when the cornerstone was laid.  The woodwork on the ceiling is breathtaking, the large stained glass window is inspiring, and the entire room focuses on the cross suspended over the altar.  The overall effect of the space is such that one feels the presence of God upon entering the room.  The sanctuary was renovated at the recent turn of the century and under the carefully preserved, and ancient exterior, is a thoroughly modern worship space.  You would have to travel a long way from Van Wert to find a more beautiful and functional sanctuary.
