Worship Service

Worship Service – 10:15 am

People come as they wish in whatever attire they feel most comfortable.  The music features a combination of contemporary worship songs and familiar hymns led by the First UM Praise Band team and Chancel Choir. Musical pieces will be played from our majestic Noehren Pipe Organ as well as Hand Bell Choir (once a month).  Children are welcome to stay in the service, use the adult-supervised child-care, or attend AWE (Alternate Worship Experience) where they are released following a “Chat with the Children” moment during the service.  Sermons are thought-provoking and pertinent to today’s lifestyle, but always scripturally based.  Prayer and scripture are incorporated by the pastor or worship team leader, and Holy Communion is served the first Sunday of each month.  Coffee, juice, and pastries are offered with fellowship following the service.

Childcare

PRESCHOOL childcare is available for ages 2-5 and takes place every Sunday at 10:15am on the 2nd floor. Children will enjoy a snack, playtime, and receive the Word through various activities.

NURSERY care is available for infants through 2-year olds during the 9:00 am Sunday School hour, and 10:15am service. The Nursery is located next the Jefferson Street entrance. Pagers are available for parents.

Common Questions

What is worship like? That depends on which service you attend. Check out each service under the Worship tab for more details on each service. Am I sitting in someone’s seat? Maybe. But chances are they don’t mind.
How should I dress? However, you are comfortable. Some men wear suits and some wear slacks and polo shirts. Some women wear dresses and some wear pants. In the summertime, some folks come to services in shorts.
Will I be asked to stand and be recognized, or say anything? Absolutely not. We let you remain anonymous until you’re ready to make yourself known.
How will I know when to stand, sit, sing, pray, leave, or whatever?  During Worship Service at 10:15 am, there are printed bulletins with clear instructions. There is always direction from the pulpit also.
What kind of people will I encounter at First Church? There are all kinds here. We have people of various races, social backgrounds, professions, theologies, and interests. What we have in common is a desire to know and relate to God. Some are far down that road. Others are just taking their first steps. Wherever you are on that path, you can fit in at First Church.
