Clarification: First Church and the Haven of Hope GoGrant

A recent media release stated that the Haven of Hope secured a "$12,500 GoGrant from the First United Methodist Church."  To clear up any potential confusion: First Church did not directly fund this grant.

Rather, our church championed the project by sponsoring and writing the grant application on behalf of Haven of Hope through the West Ohio Conference’s annual GoGrant program. We are thrilled that our application was one of 79 selected conference-wide, allowing us to use our connectional Methodist network to bring these vital funds directly into our neighborhood.

About the New Community Center Grant

Awarded under the Community Engagement category—which focuses on cultivating long-term relationships—this $12,500 grant provides powerful early momentum for a life-changing project. The funds helped Haven of Hope purchase the building next to the men's shelter so they can transform it into a vibrant community center.

This multi-purpose space will address critical local needs by serving as:

  • A Warming & Cooling Station to protect vulnerable neighbors during extreme weather.

  • A Community Meal Site to provide regular food, comfort, and fellowship.

  • A Training & Educational Center offering essential life skills and job readiness programs.

By partnering with Haven of Hope to secure this grant, we are living out our mission to fulfill Christ's work and transform our community. Thank you to Bishop Jung and everyone who helped advocate for this wonderful initiative!
